First of all, we are students from the University of Mauritius itself and it’s our 1st edition of Job Fair. And we have made all our efforts to target each and every students present irrespective of the courses and levels.
Throughout this job Fair we have not only targeted graduates but also those who are still studying so that they can get internship. Likewise, they can also take advantage from this job fair by knowing beforehand what aptitudes that they need in order to join the corporate world and also get an idea how to write a CV and all.
Our main aim is to provide a platform for open communication between students and company representatives and at the same time give students concrete tools to use in the workplace by providing them with appropriate guidelines.
Furthermore, we know that many students will graduate in May 2008 but there
are also students who will graduate shortly and keeping this too in mind we
organized the job fair.
Concerning DCDM consulting, lecturers were reluctant to release their
students due to the fact that the time table has changed- i.e having loads
of students in a class and our course also has become quite bulky and up to
this was that next week there wont be any classes due to the sports week.
The conferences had been canceled due to these reasonS, so we are not to be blamed. But however, the companies got to talk live to the whole public about their job opportunities.
We have also got hearty congratulations from the Vice chancellor and the
whole administration of UoM for our initiative.
If you have read the newspaper or asked feedback from the companies present there, you would have find out that many people have registered themselves
at the companies for work.
Concerning the starter pack cellplus who is our main sponsor decided to give the opportunity to the newcomers who didn’t get their starter pack during the funday to come and fetch their gift.
Ps: cellplus was complaining about the fact that not many newcomers came to take their starter pack and ever told us to go and look for them at the cafeteria
and as for the LAN games there was only 10 lucky students playing and the others nearby were filling in application form on the table

Yep I agree it was a nice event, good incentive which aimed more than just students of the university! Besides it helped a lot to know what’s expected from us later on…
And anyway conferences as u say I believe wouldn’t have attracted that much people (from other events experience!)…
Also there’ll be, am sure, more of these in future – either by the gov or ISS so by then u’d have finished your course

Btw… fer tapaz boucou lor zornal or tele doesn’t mean its successful anyway, just like to voice something obvious, i know many people present in the fair myself.. two was even a member of your society.. really ask them
if they were as frank as they were with me lol.. you’ll understand what am talking about
been to the stand myself, most wasn’t prepared for part-timers and internship was really not an option
(most students that will graduate shortly have got jobs already..)
Btw organising it later would have brought the same advantages you mentioned!! am not against organising it.. am just against organising it now!!

Hi Vicks
You know, organising national activities like the Job Fair takes months of preparations, and regarding the fact that we, ourselves, are students and that most of us would be busy with our dissertations and exams, we won’t be that enthusiastic to organise such an activity.
However you did propose a good idea, we will take it in due consideration.
Thank you!
